You can expect to be at Lake Michigan for engagement photos when you’re a photographer on the West side of the state. I’ve photographed hundreds of shoots on the lakeshore, and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of it.
I just had most incredible engagement session at Windstnest Park in West Olive, Michigan. When I first met with the couple to chat about their vision for the shoot, we really hit it off. There was no hesitation when the idea of a picnic was brought up. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to have an adorable picnic as part of their engagement photos? They showed up ready to roll, equipped with a cozy blanket, a cute picnic basket filled with goodies, beautiful flowers, and even champagne to toast to their love! And get this — they brought along a custom cake that totally completed the theme. Could it get any sweeter?
Michigan’s Spring weather gave us the best of both worlds when it came to lighting.
We kicked things off with those classic overcast skies (my fave) right there along Lake Michigan. As luck would have it, the sun decided to peek out right in time for golden hour. It was like nature knew we needed that perfect lighting! I guided them through some prompts to capture natural moments. They absolutely nailed it. I love when couples can just let loose and have fun during the shoot! We laughed a lot, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The highlights for me were definitely when random seagulls chose to join the frame, adding just that touch of spontaneity that captures the essence of the day.
Honestly, with the real colors, lively dynamics, and those gorgeous moments of joy, these Lake Michigan engagement photos feels like a beautiful story unfolding right before my eyes. It’s so wonderful to see love in action, especially against the stunning backdrop of the Michigan shoreline!
