I’ve been a photographer in Grand Rapids, Michigan for over a decade and THIS was my very first courthouse elopement to put in my books! I had the sweetest experience capturing this intimate elopement, and it was an absolute dream. I got to the courthouse a bit early to scout out the light and tweak my settings, ready for the magic that was about to unfold.
Then, in walked Abby and Joe, and I literally couldn’t help but drop my jaw! They looked positively stunning with their matching icy blue accents. Joe’s baby blue suit was everything—seriously, it’s my favorite color, and he wore it like a total champ. Abby was just as breathtaking with her midi white dress, icy eyes, and those shoes that perfectly echoed his suit. They had this effortless vibe that filled the space with warmth and joy.
It was short and sweet, just like they wanted. After it became official, it was time for some group formals. Once that was done, we headed to the heart of the city for their couples portraits. They really wanted to highlight that iconic blue bridge, which was perfect, but I couldn’t resist suggesting a second location that matched their aesthetic beautifully.
As we moved through the city, rain teased a few times. Luckily, the couple embraced whatever Michigan weather came to be. With their positive outlooks, I was able to guide them into some fun poses, encouraging them to just be themselves. It’s in those genuine moments, the little giggles and spontaneous movements, where the real colors of their love shone through. Abby and Joe radiated happiness, and I was just there to catch that energy as it flowed effortlessly from them.
By the end of the day, it wasn’t just a collection of photos; it felt like documenting a unique story filled with vibrant colors, real emotions, and memories they’ll cherish forever. It’s experiences like this that remind me why I adore what I do—being part of life’s celebrations.
