In my years of being a family photographer, I find that having your family photos taken at home puts little kiddos and pets in a state safety and comfort. Not to mention convenient with treats for bribery or new outfits being in the next room! I’ve been on this wonderful journey with Kaitlyn and Andrew for a while now, and each chapter just keeps getting better. From their engagement to their wedding, and now capturing their second family photoshoot, it’s been such a joy to witness their love grow. This time, we had another little princess in the mix, which made for some truly magical moments!
We decided to stick to their home again for this family photoshoot. Both times, it was a cozy, intimate setting for their family photos. Right off the bat, I wanted to get those formal shots out of the way. You know how kids are — get the posed pictures done quickly so we can transition to the fun! After that, we let the kiddos loose to play games, and that’s when the real magic happens. Candid moments are my absolute favorite. They capture genuine laughter and those sweet little interactions that you just can’t stage.
During in-home sessions, whether for family or couples photos, I’m always on the lookout for those beautiful spots with natural light.
If the perfect spot isn’t there, no worries! I come equipped with some artificial lighting to keep everything bright and inviting. It’s all about creating a space that feels warm and real. The combination of the formals where everyone is looking sharp and the playful candid shots brings such life to the photos.
One of my favorite moments was when the whole family was having a moment of play together. They were laughing, playing, and even their dog decided to join in on the fun! It’s those simple, authentic moments that really celebrate family life — colorful, vibrant, and full of love.
