I had the opportunity to work with Chloe on this editorial studio maternity shoot a couple months ago. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her for years! Everything from her engagement and rehearsal dinner to her wedding day and even a handful of family sessions. So when she told me she was expecting again, I was thrilled!
We initially planned a styled studio wedding couples portrait session for the day with her and Joe, but with her pregnancy, we decided to switch gears. Instead of canceling, I tossed out a new idea: how about we do an editorial-style studio maternity shoot instead? The energy shifted beautifully, and we were both super excited about making this work. We immediately began our search for the perfect dress. Obviously, Etsy was the way to go. We texted back and forth looking for one to land on before we decided on this total stunner that allowed for different styling to change the overall look.
My current favorite studio is The West Room Studio in Holland, Michigan, which has amazing light along with seamless backdrops for us to use. It was just Chloe and me for this session since Joe couldn’t make it this time, but honestly, it felt perfect. Chloe is a total pro at being herself in front of the camera. We played around with different designs of the dress, and I focused on bringing out her confidence in the poses. The results felt vibrant and totally magazine-worthy — just like her! She was glowing, and we shared so many laughs throughout the shoot.
Maternity sessions can often be heavy with expectations and a certain style, but this one was all about fun, creativity, and adding contrast to each shot. Chloe totally went with the flow, bringing that beautiful energy that made each photo feel special.
