A Rainy, Romantic Star Wars Wedding | Haley + Eric

As a Detroit wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of creative wedding themes, but Haley and Eric’s Star Wars wedding is one I’ll never forget. Planned perfectly for May the 4th (because, of course), their day was full of personality, laughter, and a little bit of galactic flair. Eric planned the entire thing — can you believe that?! Haley’s only request was to “just show up looking hot and party hard,” which she absolutely did.

The Force was strong, but unfortunately so was the rain. Not a quick shower, and not an on-and-off sprinkle. A steady, light rain that lasted all day long. While some couples might panic, Haley and Eric chose to embrace it, and together we found ways to turn a dreary forecast into something beautiful.

Pivoting Like a Pro

One of the things I pride myself on as a Detroit wedding photographer is problem-solving on the fly. When the rain made outdoor portraits nearly impossible, I started calling around to local spaces I thought would photograph well. After a few tries, I finally found a gorgeous greenhouse that welcomed us in. It turned out to be the perfect solution. The lush greenery added so much vibrancy and warmth to an otherwise gray day, and it brought their gallery to life in a way no one could have planned for.

And because these two are absolute rockstars, they didn’t shy away from the rain completely. They grabbed an umbrella, walked into the drizzle, and let me capture some romantic images right in the parking lot. What did Taylor Swift say? “I don’t know why, but with you I’d dance in a storm in my best dress – fearless.”

Arnaldo’s + The Stars

Their ceremony and reception were held at Arnaldo’s, chosen specifically for its starry ceilings to tie in with their Star Wars wedding theme. The intimate ceremony under the “stars” was beautifully heartfelt, followed by a big, joy-filled reception with family and friends. Tables were decorated with Star Wars helmets, trinkets, and a blue, green, and black palette that gave the space a fun, thematic vibe without feeling over the top.

From the moment guests walked in, it was clear that this was a celebration uniquely theirs—equal parts classy and quirky, heartfelt and fun.

Posing, But Make It Fun

For portraits, I leaned into my signature movement-based direction, encouraging Haley, Eric, and their wedding party to walk, laugh, and play rather than stand stiffly in front of the camera. The result? Photos that feel alive, candid, and full of their true personalities. Even with the rain, they were relaxed, engaged, and totally themselves.

Why I Loved This Day

This wedding is the perfect reminder that not everything will go as planned, but your day can still be unforgettable. With a little creativity, a lot of positivity, and couples willing to embrace the moment, even the rainiest May the 4th can turn into pure magic.

Haley and Eric proved that love, laughter, and a touch of Star Wars can overcome just about anything. And I can’t imagine a more fitting celebration for them.
