Casual Engagement Outfits | Alexis & Ethan

As an engagement photographer, I get asked all the time for advice on outfits, so here are two casual looks as examples! I recently had the pleasure of capturing this engagement session at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It truly felt like a scene straight out of a romantic movie. The couple had just gotten engaged at the beach in Muskegon. They wanted to celebrate their love with a photoshoot that brought in the lush greens and wildflowers of a park. With my recommendations, they landed on this spot! We met right around golden hour, obviously, for that dreamy lighting that makes everything look a little more enchanting.

They were all about those candid and intimate moments, which aligns with the vibe they want for their wedding day. You know how excited you get to see a couple just being themselves? It’s like getting a sneak peek into their love story!

Engagement session outfits don’t have to be formal and CAN be casual!

The first of two outfits for this engagement session was casual, with a neutral palette that included jeans and blue hues. Personally, I think this outfit complemented the location beautifully while still making them pop against the backgrounds. For the second look, Alexis switched it up with a breezy white sundress while Ethan rocked a vibrant burgundy shirt. Talk about a power couple! The hues were perfect against the hazy sunset as the colors shifted to a warmer palette, adding depth to their images. I love when couples aren’t afraid to be casual and just be comfortable in their outfits for their engagement shoot. It really helps bring out their personalities.

Throughout the photoshoot, watching them laugh, twirl, and just be themselves made my job a breeze. If you ever find yourself at Millennium Park at sunset, take a moment to soak it all in. This place is just bursting with photo opportunities! Can’t wait to capture more stories like this one!

The couple’s love story:

Ethan and I have grown up together since we were babies. My mother and his father grew up next door to each other, and played together everyday. Once my mom started dating my dad at 13 years old, my dad and Ethan’s dad became best friends. Both of our parents have stayed very close, and raised all of their children together. Ethan is a twin, and we were both 3 months apart. Growing up, we saw each other frequently at events, and always had a spark between us. We dated for about a year in 6th grade, but went to different schools and decided to just be friends lol. Throughout high school, the spark remained strong whenever we would see each, and would hang out occasionally and remain in touch but Ethan was traveling around the country chasing his professional dirt biking dreams. After high school graduation, we reconnected and decided to give it a genuine try. Ever since then, we have grown a love neither of us thought was possible, and cannot imagine a day without each other. Now, I am graduating nursing school, Ethan is a professional dirt bike rider and we travel around the country for his races. Truly a match made in heaven.
