This was my second time using the Detroit Institute of Arts as an engagement shoot location. Picture this: I got to shoot at the DIA last month, and let me tell you, I was absolutely buzzing to go back. Then, along came Courtney and AJ. Literally the perfect couple for a session! Not only did they jump on the idea of shooting there, but lucky for us, the blossoms were in full bloom. The soft pinks were the perfect backdrop to make it all POP.
Before we even started, I was immediately drawn to the minimalism of the marble walls and stairs. There’s something about those clean lines that just accentuates the couple so beautifully. It’s like the building itself was saying, “Hey, check out these two lovebirds!” And those blossoms? They brought such a vibrant splash of color, even on a cloudy golden hour. The way the soft light wrapped around everything added an extra layer of magic to their moments together.
I love preserving real colors and the movement in posing. It’s like dancing between the frames! We had endless laughter and candid moments, which are always the best to capture. Whether catching a sweet glance or a burst of giggles, it felt effortless and fun. Watching them connect and just be themselves was a reminder of why I adore what I do. The whole day was a stunning mix of art, love, and a sprinkle of springtime magic. Life really is a beautiful collection of moments, isn’t it?
Honestly, each click of the shutter reminded me why I love what I do. Experiencing the connection, and the way they shared their world with each other is what it’s all about. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to document more engagement shoots in places that inspire, especially places like the Detroit Institute of Arts. It’s kind of like when you stumble upon the perfect spot that just feels right—you know you want to keep returning for more!
