Silver Lake Sand Dunes Engagement

This Silver Lake Sand Dunes engagement session was a dream come true. I met Niki and Jake at a Grand Rapids wedding several years ago and I am thrilled they have chosen me for their own wedding!

I believe my best photos come about when a couple really trusts my vision as their photographer. Niki and Jake, for example, gave me such creative freedom during their Engagement Session, and I am so thrilled with how the photos turned out! They executed every single prompt I threw at them, no matter how silly it might have sounded at the time. From running up and down the dunes, to rolling in the sand, to even getting in the water, Niki and Jake were a dream couple to capture!

A closer look at Niki & Jake’s Engagement Session

Story time: When photographing a wedding in 2021, I took a few quick snaps of some guests that were outside during the reception. I happened to take a few photos of Niki and Jake! Two years (yes, years!) later, they reached out to me saying how much they loved those quick photos I had snapped and that they couldn’t imagine anyone else taking their official engagement photos.

We were a match made in photo heaven! Niki and Jake were comfortable in front of the camera, and I was honored to be wholeheartedly trusted by them. One of my strongest skills as a photographer is ensuring every session is relaxed, cheerful, and comfortable for us all. I’m good at giving direction and making conversation, so the atmosphere is perfect for taking authentic, happy photos. Niki and Jake rolled right with me, following every prompt and soaking up every moment together.

This Engagement Session also gave us a chance to get to know each other even more before their upcoming wedding. I always encourage couples to do an Engagement Session with their wedding photographer. That way, the couple gets to know the photographer’s workflow before the biggest day of their lives.
